We Have A Post. AND some liftoff!

Well, we know our permanent site! We leave in about 2 hours to go for a trip until wednesday, to visit our permanent work sites and new host fam.

We are posted in Akhaltzikhe, which is in the mountains in Southern Georgia, by the meeting of the Turkish and Aremenian borders. We're about 3 hours from Tblisi by bus, which is pretty awesome. The downside is that winters will be brutal, with deep snow and a lot of cold. We'll adjust, but these San Diegans don't really know how to appreciate knee deep snow in a way that the volunteers from northern Minnesota can (stories of -45 degrees fahrenheit days.... that's WAY too cold for humans. My friend, Paul, rode his bike in -45. Seriously. You can get facial frostbite if you don't wear a mask). I don't think it'll be that cold, but probably -10 celcius will be a good starting point. Weather wimpage aside, we're pretty excited. I'll be working with a very large multinational NGO - Ithink they have branches in 40 or 50 countries - and I'll post more info when we get back.

Love to you all!

Wow, sounds very cool. It's nice to know that the hand-warmers may be useful ;-) Hope that you're feeling better and that your test went well.
