Easter!

Although Easter in America was a long time ago, the Orthodox Easter was just last weekend for us here in Georgia. The Wednesday night before Easter, families light bonfires in their backyards, although I am not sure of the religious symbolism. On Friday and Monday, many people went to the cemetery and had a supra (feast/party) by the gravestone of a deceased relative (I'm not sure how the relative is picked--closest to the family, most recently deceased, nicest supra shelter?). Most cemetery plots have a small picnic shelter next to them for supras (I believe there are also supras, or at least glasses of wine are drunk, on the anniversaries of death and also the dead person's birthday, although I could be wrong). See the picture below for a supra shelter and plots (although it isn't the grave we were eating at):

Our family didn't go on Friday, but they made up for it on Monday. After a bountiful feast on Monday (see the video below for a tour of the table), we retired home to rest from our gluttony.

We planned to go with my host sister to church on Easter, but she decided she wanted to go to the 11pm Saturday service, that just happened to be an all-night affair (the service ended at 6 or 7am). We decided that was maybe just a little more standing than we could take ;), so we just read the Easter story together instead.
